There's a story in the news today about a young and sensitive college student who jumped to his death after being filmed having a tryst with another guy, which footage was live-streamed on the internet. (I'm not linking because the news articles show his name and face; his privacy has been violated enough.) Not sure how I'd respond if I were filmed with someone I wasn't in a relationship with; probably not as badly, but I'd be seriously shaken up.
Students (and people of all occupations, for that matter) kill themselves from time to time; at my old university there was a tacit agreement that the university newspapers didn't publicise it. What caused this to make the news is the intersection of suicide and modern technology, and the suggestion (mentioned in the article) that the young man was driven to it by the stigma attached to homosexuality in society. But there's probably a lot of people who become suicidal due to lower-tech revelations, or whose lives are damaged or destroyed by such things but who aren't quite pushed over the edge by it.

EDIT: reportedly, the guy who posted the video actually liked the guy who he caused to commit suicide, and thought he was cool. That somehow makes it even worse.
(At school once I saw a girl push her friend, jokingly, as part of a conversation; but her friend stumbled, and fell in front of a car, and went flying through the air like a rag doll. She was away from school for months. The girl who'd done the pushing went into hysterics. I still remember her expression, although I expect that time has altered the memory.)
